"Claim: Sir Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal and President of the Royal Society, puts the odds for human extinction this century at 50%.
Source: Rees, Martin. "The Energy Challenge." The World Question Center 2007. Retrieved 9 Aug. 2008. ."
But the source only says:
"A few years ago, I wrote a short book entitled Our Final Century? I guessed that, taking all risks into account, there was only a 50 percent chance that civilisation would get through to 2100 without a disastrous setback. "
Is this a typo? There's an important difference between 50% risk of a disastrous setback of civilisation and 50% risk of extinction (I guess setback could cause the latter, but that would be with less than 100% certainty)
This was a lot of fun. I think wbe'll have disruptive AI by 2020 so I tried to show that in my graphs. Bye for now flamoot
